Matjaž Mrak

DOCUMENTARY FILM

A short documentary will be made throughout the duration of the Choreographic Lab workshops. The six days of filming (the last two days of each session) will be finally edited as a document of the process. Through the film we will be able to follow the development of the participants as well as the methodological principles of the individual workshop sessions. This educational and creative process will be recorded in a condensed form and will be accessible to other dance makers and to the public. Through the lens of the camera, we will be able to look into the underbelly of a process that is otherwise closed to the general public, and to introduce the young choreographers to a wider public.

Matjaž Mrak  is the author and co-author of various (also award-winning) documentaries, dance and music films. Although his career is connected with the camera as a director of photography (he is also a member of the Association of Filmmakers of Slovenia – ZFS), he has also started to work as an independent producer of both documentary and dance films.

He is equally passionate about both genres, although he says that dance film is his passion. In his latest film (to be premiered this autumn), he has combined both virtues in a dance-movement-documentary fusion film entitled Pavilion Motor.
